Autometer Boost Gauge

While I was at the dyno place getting my first baseline dyno run, a nice Autometer boost gauge caught my eye, so I bought it.

Autometer Boost Gauge.

The boost gauge is a liquid filled Pro Comp gauge that measures from 30" Mercury to 20 psi boost. The most the car will ever run is a little under 15 psi, so this gauge suits fine.

The next step is to fit the gauge. I chose to fit it on the A-pillar, where most boost gauges seem to end up (except in Commodores, where it's replaced with the dinnerplate tacho). So I went to Autobarn and purchased a gauge cup and a few fittings. After a bit of a stuff around with differing thread pitches and a visit to a hose fittings place, I was set.
I fitted the T-piece into a line to the intake manifold, and ran the supplied nylon hose into the cabin. The globe was replaced with a Philips Blue Vision globe and wired to the dash illumination lights. After a bit of a fiddle, it was all mounted and working.
While I was at it, I decided to do the well known ABV mod too. This will allow the car to build more boost with the addition of an oversized crank pulley by holding the air bypass valve closed longer. Under stock boost levels, there isn't any gain but I thought I may as well do it while I was there. One T-join and I was done.

UPDATE 22/8/07

I was at my usual haunt (Autobarn) and found something REALLY nice. Real carbon fibre Autometer gauge cups. Giggidy.
So as usual, I bought one. This one's for the boost gauge.

Carbon Fibre Gauge Cup

I haven't fitted it yet. I'm too busy admiring it's resin infused, black woven beauty. I'll post pics once it's installed.

UPDATE 2/9/07

Fitted the carbon cup today. Took all of 10 minutes. I also went down to the fastners place and bought some black allen bolts to blend in a bit better than the supplied silver ones.

Carbon Fibre Gauge Cup Fitted

Looks pretty nice I think. I have a bit of a soft spot for carbon fibre, might have to get a bit more into the car....
