Well I got ansty, and fibreglassed the front bar. I got the fibreglass kit from work as the mechanic who rents floor space had one laying around so I managed to get it cheap. I have never fibreglassed before, so for my first effort, I'm pretty pleased with the result.
After a few days to make sure it was nice and hard, I fitted the bar. all up it took me a little under an hour to remove the old stock bar, grille and headlights, then reinstall it all with the Bomex bar. It turned out much easier than I thought. I'm sure the light weight of the Bomex bar helped, the last front bar I stuffed with was a massive moulded plastic bohemeth on an XE Falcon. Im sure my whole Levin weighs less than one of those.....
I also removed part of the plastic weel arch liner, just behind the front bar on either side. As the new bar has vents either side, the resulting pockets were acting like parachutes. I just cut the plastic out with a stanley knife and opened the whole area nicely. This will aid the brake cooling and aerodynamics a little by allowing the air to flow through to the tyre well. I'll be adding cold air induction and brake ducting soon too.
I still have to bog and sand the repair job, but I just couldnt wait to fit the bar.. It certainly fattens up the front nicely.
While I was out and about, I dropped into the local signwriter and got a white decal with the word 'supercharged' written in script. Cost me $10 and will go on the boot lid just below the spoiler. I'm also thinking of getting the word 'Bomex' in white to put on the front lip just in front of the centre intake. I reckon it'll help break up the mass of black a bit, as well as show off the fact that I've got Bomex fitted. :P
